There is the time in the year which has been marked as the national month of pecan and during this time the farms are also platforms for people to see how it is done and learn more about it on these tracts of land that are usually passed one from one generation to the next. Pecan season Georgia is taken to be in November although dropping is observed to begin in October and can run all the way to early beginning of the next year.

The process is taken to last for three months and is basically about shaking them to fall off then sweep and collect them into a wagon and head to the plant where the cleaning is done and once they are roasted and salted they can be put in market for sale.

The harvest usually changes depending on the location where they are grown and the type that we are dealing with. It takes around ten years for the tree to fully produce the nuts if that tree was grown from a seed. If they are being produced from small trees or cuttings it will even take six years to have the nuts.

There are usually large yields in a very short period. When freshly harvested they are very fresh with a lot of moisture. The nuts must be completely dried out before they are stored in order to improve their quality. When drying they are spread out in a thin layer where there is good air circulation.

When there is a cold or late spring it is expected that the harvest will be late that is usually expected. Despite such an issue the crop doe not run out of buyers and normal profits are made. Large organizations that indulge in this kind of market must be able to access their staff, agent and keep the local people informed about all the issues that might affect them.

To enable the tree to get through this transition a lot of input is expected and this point we are talking about irrigation. The trees should be irrigated all through the mid of august to the mid of the following month and if the crop is early then there should be a withdrawal when the rains come for a couple of days and the use of fungicides should be coming to an end.

When the shells have become had it is important to avoid any chemical that can be sprayed on top because it will act as cosmetic. Some types will require just pone more spray that will act as scub, consequently Pawnee is supposed to be coming to an end at this time because harvesting is just about to begin in a period of one month.

At this stage a lot of attention is given to the trees because they have to be managed by eliminating any stressful circumstances such as the attack from pests because aphids and mites are a threat and would mess up the harvest.
