Security has become a major concern in the world. The good old lock and key have become almost useless in the face of a determined intruder. However, technology has come to the rescue. There are doors that recognize the residents and just open upon their approach. Some cameras that recognize faces and announce the arrival. These are all dandy. At some point in life, you will need a dummy guide on how to make your home smart.

One should take a tour of the house first. This probably sounds stupid because it is home, every nook and cranny is known. This will not be a regular tour. Visit every room and visualize exactly what technology could do for each. It could be smart bulbs for the bar. These change color according to the prompt. On party night, it could give a red hue or just a soft yellow for that mellow drink.

This step shakes everything up with reality. Think about how practical it would be to get a house robot to answer the door. How necessary is it? Where does it rank on the scale? What are features more important than this? Make a list with two bunches. One with the wild dreams that are not entirely necessary. Another with the practical stuff like security and automatic coffee maker or motion sensitive lighting.

Then comes the budget. Once the list is complete, it is time to enter the figures. If the finances are a bit strained, this step will work to narrow down the list to only the most necessary items on the list. What can one live without comfortably? One should check online for prices of the gadget and other supplementary supplies.

Always consider the consistent upgrades of gadgets and applications. How many times does WhatsApp prompt an upgrade? That is how fast things move in the technological world. One should install a system that allows for software upgrades or plugging in of a new gadget. A system that will not glitch when the application is a little out of date. It should stick work even if version 2.0 is out.

A hub is a connection point for all gadgets in the house. This is the communication center. It connects all the gadgets in the house making it easy to operate the entire system from whatever phone, tab, or even laptop that is closest. No need to scour the house for one particular gadget that operates the lights.

This business of home smart making should not be handled haphazardly. Due care and caution should be taken. One should take it step by step. They should not install everything all at once. Every feature should be given time to be instilled into the normal routine before the introduction of another.

Use of technology in the home should not be used for the cool factor. It is the perfect star on the Christmas tree but that should not be a factor to consider when purchasing. One should make the decisions with a clear head. While it is okay to crave a little luxury, it should not come before security concerns and functionality.
