A C-arm is a kind of medical equipment. It is applied in different surgical procedures in hospitals and clinics. The arm of the c arm x ray machine is C-shaped and it is from here that the name C-arm is derived. The x-ray source and x-ray detector are connected to each other using a C-shaped arm. Therefore, production of the x-rays is done in one place and then transmitted via the arm to the detector for detection.

Originally, the initial versions had a lower efficiency level and were larger in size. On the other hand, the device is currently more efficient and also occupies a smaller space. The software that is being used in modern equipment has played a big part in promoting the level of efficiency. In addition, technology has advanced in this field in the past number of years.

In hybrid operating rooms, fixed systems are more preferable compared to mobile c-arms. This is because they have to be used for longer periods before being allowed to cool. To prevent problems related to overheating, fixed systems usually use liquid cooling systems. The advantage of liquid cooling is that the system can be put to use for longer periods before they need to cool down.

The images produced by the current versions are not distorted because they use the flat-panel technology. The images are also of more than 16,000 different shades of gray. They give a resolution of beyond 1500 by 1500 pixels. In addition, the machine does not get affected by magnetic fields and in turn, the images produced do not also get destroyed by the fields. With this being the case, one can place the device near a magnetic resonance (MR) scanner and not have any kind of problem.

Another major advantage associated with flat-panel technology is that it creates images with a much larger field of view. Compared to conventional image intensifiers, flat-panel detectors are capable of producing images that have up to 60 percent more information. This gives surgeons and other physicians more details to work with. Thus, the accuracy of surgical procedures is improved a lot.

C-arms have patient tables included in their design for x-ray imaging. The tables are designed to allow the proper fitting of the imaging device around the body of a patient. Other tables are created in ways that permit a bit of movement for better positioning and placement of the equipment around the patient. With this, images that are captured are better.

C-arms can take images from different angles. Therefore, more information is revealed and thus the procedure can be conducted with accuracy. In some cases tables are made to be translucent in order to prevent the procedure from being interfered with. Carbon fiber has become popular in this field for the reason that it is strong and light in weight.

Lastly, one can access services offered using c-arm x ray imaging machines easily today. The reason is that technological advancements permit creation of imaging devices at lower costs. Their use and maintenance is also easy, allowing more health facilities to access them.
